State Aid Conference for Scottish Local Authorities

The Scottish Government State aid Unit hosted a conference for
Scottish Local Authorities in Glasgow on 2 October 2007.

Over 80 delegates from the 32 local authorities, together with
representatives from Scottish Enterprise, the Government’s
Communities & Local Government and Investment & Innovation
Grants branches.

Presentations in the morning session from Sheena Brown and
Sandra Reid, State Aid Unit, provided an introduction to State aid
and Local Authority cover which were well received by the delegates,
followed by a question and answer session from the floor.

In the afternoon delegates listened to presentations from
Melissa Perry, UKREP and Trevor Raggatt, BERR on the roles
and functions of both and how they interlink with the work of the
devolved administrations in Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Delegates were provided with copies of the presentations, a
guidance booklet on the current eligible schemes and a State aid
and non domestic rates relief guide.  However, those attending
asked if they could have internet access to the information for
dissemination to colleagues and as a reference.
