Aid for Heritage Preservation

The Historic Environment Regeneration scheme N 356/2006 allows Historic Scotland, the Local Authorities, and the Enterprise Networks to provide grant aid to economic undertakings for the repair, restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings and similar that they own.

The aid recipient must be the owner of an eligible historic object - listed buildings, designated conservation areas, ancient scheduled monuments, registered historic parks and gardens. Grant aid can provide up to 100% of eligible costs, which comprise the additional costs involved in respecting or enhancing the historic significance of an object e.g. the cost of using appropriate, traditional materials. The scheme cannot be used to provide support beyond heritage conservation. For example, the safeguarding and restoration of a period building incapable of economic repair with the alternative of collapse/demolition and which belongs to a private company may be eligible for support under the scheme. Its subsequent conversion to, say, office space for rent would not however.
